Information for Developers

SIESTA development is currently held in the ‘dev’ branch of the SIESTA GitLab.

For an overview of the various strands of development, please see this Guide to SIESTA versions.

When developing a new feature, remember to update the SIESTA manual accordingly. The SIESTA manual describes all the options that control the behavior of the program; it is currently formatted with LaTeX, and its sources can be found in the Docs subdirectory of the Siesta distribution.

Old information (kept for historical purposes):

• Building with makefile based approach (could be used in some intermediate development versions between 4.1.5 and 5.0.0).

• Old versions of SIESTA (up to 3.x) were not licensed under GPL or any other open source license. Their license allows for distribution free of charge to academics (please see the detailed conditions in the licence text), and they can also be installed by computer centers to be used only by academics, but they cannot be re-distributed. They can be accessed here.
